The iconic ridge-top community west of downtown, on the Cumberland Plateau
overlooking the Tennessee River. If you want views, trees, and quiet, this is
the classic answer - with the tradeoffs of a mountain commute.
Lots of mid-century ranches on wooded lots, plus newer builds and some large
estates. Prices run above the county average; inventory is tight and lots are
often steep, so drive any property before buying.
Downtown is ~15-20 minutes down the mountain (Taft Hwy / Hwy 127, then
I-24/27). Snow and ice can close the mountain roads in winter; the descent is
slow when it's slick. Plan extra time in bad weather.
Signal Mountain has its own well-regarded elementary schools (Thrasher,
Nolan) and feeds Signal Mountain Middle/High, one of the state's strong
public schools (smmhs.hcde.org,
thrasher.hcde.org). Big draw for families.
