How to get out of town without driving yourself - or with.
Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is small and easy: one terminal, short
security lines, cheap parking. The trade-off is historically few direct flights - you
usually connect through ATL, CLT, or DFW, though nonstops have been expanding: Frontier added DEN (Denver) in 2026 (CHA Denver destinations, FlightConnections CHA-DEN, via proposal airport/proposal-1qdsy9w). See CHA's site
for current airlines.
- Parking: short-term and long-term lots are steps from the terminal;
booking in advance (if offered) beats drive-up on busy mornings.
- Getting there without a car: see Groome below, or rideshare - it's a
20-25 minute trip from downtown.
- Aviation park (under construction): CHA broke ground in November 2025 on a 4.5-acre aviation-themed observation park for planespotting — a revival of the old free family viewing area, with playground, pavilions, WWII pilot memorial, and trails (Chattanoogan 2025, WDEF, NewsChannel 9) (via proposal
airport/proposal-1o76ufa). Construction started June 2026 and the opening slipped to early 2027 (Q1) (Local 3, June 2026) — check CHA's site for opening date/hours before you go.
Groome runs shared-ride vans between Chattanooga and the airports.

- Nashville (BNA) - the well-used route for catching cheaper/more
direct flights.
- Atlanta (ATL) - check current availability; routes change.
- Book ahead. Weather cancellations happen (a vans-shutdown during a storm
has left people scrambling), so have a backup plan for time-sensitive
flights.
This one's confusing because it keeps moving, so here's the verified
timeline:
- Greyhound closed the downtown Chattanooga station years ago.
- On November 10, 2023, Greyhound stopped serving Chattanooga entirely
and moved its stop to a gas station in Wildwood, Georgia (just over
the state line), at 405 GA-299, Wildwood, GA - see Chattanoogan's
story
and WDEF.
- That Wildwood stop is now gone too. A check of Greyhound's current
routes (2026) shows no stops anywhere closer than Athens, TN (about
an hour east on I-75); Wildwood no longer appears on the route map. It's
unclear exactly when the Wildwood stop ended, but it no longer exists.
Bottom line: there is no Greyhound service in the Chattanooga area.
The nearest Greyhound stop is Athens, TN (~1 hour east), with full
terminals in Atlanta or Nashville (~2 hrs). See Greyhound's route map
for the current state, and book/confirm online first - routes change
frequently.
- Groome for airports (above).
- Drive to a hub - ATL (~2 hr) and BNA (~2 hr) both have cheaper and
more frequent flights than CHA. Many locals drive to Atlanta's or
Nashville's airport and fly from there for big trips.
Other than Groome, there appears to be no current public transit type option for long distance travel to or from the city. The following once serviced the city but no longer do:
- Greyhound - no longer serves Chattanooga or Wildwood; nearest stop is
Athens, TN (above).
- Megabus - served the city years ago but no recent service.
- Amtrak - no passenger rail serves Chattanooga; the closest stations
are Atlanta, Nashville, or Birmingham.
- Uber / Lyft - available; surge pricing downtown on event nights.
- Local taxi / limo services - airport flat rates are common; compare
before relying on rideshare during surge.
Shuttle routes and bus stops change often - always confirm on the day of
travel. Greyhound status re-verified September 2026 via route map — no Chattanooga or Wildwood stop as of Sep 2026.
