From gas-station taquerias to taco Tuesdays, Chattanooga has a serious taco
scene for a city its size. Community picks below - add yours.
Green pins: well-regarded. Gold pins: quick, cheap favorites. Click a pin for
address and directions (Google or Apple Maps).
- Taco Roc (East Brainerd) - the local standard-bearer with a big menu
and grilled items; good for groups. Single location at 6960 Lee Hwy.
- El Rey Restaurant & Taqueria (East Brainerd) - a family-run favorite;
the barbacoa and house salsas are the standouts.
- La Alteña (Main St, downtown) - a long-time local taqueria with big
flavors, margaritas, and a loyal following; the al pastor is worth a detour.
- Taco Town (Brainerd) - small taqueria with a loyal following; great for
a quick, cheap taco run.
- Taco Roc and El Rey both run weekday specials - check each location
for the current deal and price before you go.
- Several Southside and downtown spots post daily taco specials on socials;
the Chattanooga Market is the Sunday tie-in.
Tacos show up at the Chattanooga Market (Sundays)
and breweries. Truck schedules rotate - check the vendor's socials. On St.
Elmo Ave there's also a well-regarded taqueria food-truck stop (Tacos El Tote).
- Al pastor vs. carnitas - pick a lane.
- Corn vs. flour tortillas - "real" taquerias use corn.
- Homemade salsa vs. the jarred stuff - a dealbreaker.
